This was one of the very early challenges in the Hawaiian Hero Torment in which we needed to learn about our own hero as well as posses a basic knowledge of our appointment's hero. This challenge would allow your opponent, the teacher, as well as your class to ask you questions to help or trip you up. The main thing we had to do in this project is research. So the one thing we needed when we were preparing was Information Literacy to gather the information we need to win. When I finally went up there to present to the class I had to exercise my Communication and Critical Thinking skills to correctly the difficult questions.
I already could research pretty well before this project and others like it, but what I sort of had a hard time with was presenting in front of the class. I had to get a lot better from doing this presentation and others like it. So these sort of oral presentations and debates have forced me to improve upon my Communication Skills.
I'm pretty proud that I was actually able to successfully research enough of my hero and my two opponents' heroes enough to actually win this competition. Although, I found that presenting to the class was extremely difficult because I was not that good at presenting at the time.
If I could restart this project over and change one thing I would make sure that all of the facts I found was correct by finding another reference for a fact that I was feeling particularly shaky about.
This project was the first of many that I needed to research information about Nainoa Thompson and other Hawaiian Heroes for that matter, like my Daniel Inouye documentary trailer. I think this one project was the first step in the entire Hawaiian Heroes tournament.
