The 21st century skill that we, without a doubt used the most was Civic Literacy and Engagement. This is because we had to create our own country, particularly the government and policies of the country. We did work on the geography of the country, this project was clearly about understanding government and how an effective government should function. The second 21st century skill that we used was Global Awareness. This is because we had to crate a country that has its own motivations and goals in terms of things like wealth. The third skill that we used was Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy. We defiantly needed this skill, as the project required us to include things like how is the country gonna make money, or dose this country have capitalism or dose it not? For me the last thing this required was Self-Directional Skills. This is very important because while you do have time in class to work on this project, it is largely conducted at home on our own accord.
What were you most proud of in this assignment?
I think that I'm most proud of the map. This might seem to be a little off topic because this happens to be a democracy assignment. Although I think that the map was actually my favorite thing to do, mostly because I actually found it almost fun to do and subsequently the quality of this part of the project improved.
How did you develop or improve upon your 21st century skills with this assignment?
Despite most people having to work with a group I accidentally joined a group that wasn't in my class before we had class schedules, so that led me to have to work alone. This led me to more focus on self-directional skills rather than interpersonal because I had to do everything myself rather than in a group.
What was most difficult in completing this task?
The most difficult aspect of this project was the work. You might think that this was easy because the work as assigned in a spread out manner. This was to allow us to complete all of the work without overwhelming the class with a mountain of work. For me this was thrown out the window, keep in mind this is meant for three people to work together on this and I had such a hard time trying to find a group, by the time I gave up and started to work alone I was already behind. This meant that I had three weeks of working with other groups with almost nothing to show for it. Although this wasn't too much of a problem as it was at the start of the project, so I had plenty of time to make those class periods up.
How could improve your work? If you could start over what would you do differently?
If I could improve my work from the start by changing one thing I would find a group that is actually in my class. This is because being ultimately behind and alone may have caused me to procrastinate a bit which hurt my overall performance on this assignment.
How dose this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to what I learned in the past because the biggest thing this taught me was to not procrastinate. I have felt over my head in the past and started to put things off by distracting myself or being caught up in other classes, but this and the work on this E-portfolio has kinda got it thru my head.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I think I could apply this to my future learning by instead of procrastinating and distracting myself from the problem at hand I should just dig myself out of this hole.
