CS Coding
This semester my computer science has gotten notably more difficult. Instead of learning basic text and data manipulation we were working with the simple GUI. This took a considerable amount of technology literacy and information literacy to take accurate notes to understand the simple GUI enough to make animations. On top of that, even though we were in a class, we still had to use our self directional skills to do a large portion of the work ourselves because the teacher's attention was on the many other people in the class.
If there's one thing that I can say that I'm proud of in this project it would have to be my improvement. I knew next to nothing about coding apart from how lists and loops work. Now I know how the simple GUI functions work along with things like global variables and using the refresh of the simple GUI to make very simple animations.
Although I did pretty well in this class, I still think my work is less than what I want it to be. This is probably because I tried to cram all of the work in this class into just two hours a week. I still did good enough work to get an A, but the work wasn't polished enough for my liking. For example, I made an animation of a boat moving from left to right over the ocean, but the boat was on top of the waves and in that time frame I couldn't figure out how to fix that problem.
If I could start this semester over and change one thing about this class I would definitely do much more of the work at home. Then I could spend much more time on these projects and come out with an all together better product.
As far as past experiences go this only really relates to last semester's computer science and my freshman technology class both of those classes did coding and some work with technology, but this semester's computer science was much more difficult and complex than anything I did in the past.
Coding is a very helpful skill in almost any profession, especially mechanical engineering. Even if I only know a little bit about coding it will still help me work better with other people that studied computer science on a project. Because of this I plan on studying coding further in my years of high school and maybe even a bit in college.
