This project was the semi final round of the Hawaiian Hero Competition. In this leg of the challenge we were assigned a team to create a trailer for a documentary about the group leader's hero. My group was assigned Daniel Inouye. I think the 21st century skills my group that needed most was Technology and Information Literacy skills. I think I used Information Literacy more so than Technology literacy skills mostly because my role in the group was to find the clips and give the editor a general idea of what the final product will look like.
I am pretty proud of the final project because it actually looks like a professional trailer. I think we were able to make such a polished final product because we used found footage and audio from high budget movies and interviews of Daniel Inouye himself to narrate the footage.
I think I personally improved upon my Self Directional skills and information literacy. This is mostly because I had to find time on my own to work on finding timestamps and some audio that will fit well with the footage. I No one was making me work on this, hence the Self Directional skills and my job was to gather information for our editor so I had to improve my Information Literacy.
I think the most difficult part of this project for me was having to figure out how certain timestamps will fit together chronologically through the course of the video.
If I could start over and change one thing about how I worked I would probably try a bit harder to find time to edit the final copy of the list of video clips.
I don't actually think my role in this project relates to anything I have ever done before. While I have helped create an "educational" video in math, but my job was very different in creating that video. In that video I was one of the people in front of the camera, but with this project we used entirely found footage, so my job was very different.
This project was very different, but I think we will see much more video related projects, especially with the possible introduction of a cinematography club in the near future. This project may very well be a common sight in future classes.
